Nokia and Zayo Develop Distributed AI Connectivity Architecture Using IP and Optical Networks

Nokia has disclosed new work with US fiber and backbone operator Zayo to develop network architecture supporting distributed AI inference. The development was highlighted during Nokia’s October 22 third-quarter earnings discussion. The initiative focuses on connecting geographically distributed computing infrastructure through high-capacity IP routing and optical networking. Nokia is working with Zayo on an architecture and service blueprint intended to support connectivity between data centers and AI computing locations. The project reflects growing demand for high-bandwidth, low-latency transport between distributed processing facilities. Nokia’s IP Networks business recorded 43 percent year-over-year sales growth during the quarter, while Optical Networks grew 18 percent. The companies have not disclosed contract value, fiber-route length or deployment dates.

Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan Launch 380-km Trans-Caspian Cable with 400 Tbps Capacity

Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom have inaugurated the Trans-Caspian Submarine Cable System connecting Aktau in Kazakhstan with Sumgait in Azerbaijan. The cable was formally inaugurated on October 15, 2026, with additional technical details reported during October 20–21. The approximately 380-kilometer submarine system has a stated design capacity of at least 400 Tbps. It was developed through CaspiLink, a joint venture established by the two operators. The infrastructure creates an alternative international data route connecting Central Asia with Europe through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. The project forms part of the wider Digital Silk Way initiative. Earlier investment estimates exceeded 23 billion tenge, approximately $50 million. Commercial capacity activation details remain limited.

CelcomDigi Pays RM381.75 Million for 50 MHz of Additional Malaysian Mobile Spectrum

CelcomDigi has accepted spectrum award conditions covering 2×20 MHz in the 2600 MHz band and 2×5 MHz in the 900 MHz band. The operator paid RM381.75 million on October 15, 2026. The proposed 2600 MHz assignment has a four-year duration, while the 900 MHz assignment runs for five years. Once formally issued, the additional frequencies would increase CelcomDigi’s directly assigned paired spectrum holdings from 190 MHz to 240 MHz. The 2600 MHz allocation would enable a contiguous 2×40 MHz block, supporting improved capacity and spectrum efficiency. The 900 MHz frequencies would strengthen wider-area and indoor coverage. Formal issuance remains subject to regulatory conditions; network activation dates have not been announced.
