KPN Renews iBASIS Network Outsourcing Agreement for Five Years, Expands 5G Roaming Cooperation

KPN and iBASIS announced on November 3 a five-year renewal of their international voice and mobile network services agreement. The extension follows nine years of cooperation involving international traffic management and wholesale connectivity. iBASIS will continue supporting KPN through its IPX infrastructure, including capacity planning for mobile roaming and international traffic exchange. The renewed partnership also covers further cooperation involving 5G Standalone, GRX and eSIM connectivity. The infrastructure is designed to manage seasonal roaming traffic increases and unexpected IoT traffic peaks. iBASIS serves more than 1,400 customers across 37 locations worldwide. The companies have not disclosed contract value, committed traffic volumes or additional infrastructure investment.

AccelerComm Partners with Tier-One Operator to Develop AI-Controlled 5G RAN Energy Optimization

AccelerComm announced on November 4 that it had partnered with an unnamed tier-one mobile network operator to develop AI-controlled resource management for 5G radio access infrastructure. The project focuses on reducing base-station energy consumption and hardware requirements through real-time monitoring of computational workloads. AccelerComm is developing a telemetry and control interface connecting physical-layer processing with AI-based network management systems. The architecture is intended to adjust processing resources dynamically according to traffic demand, reducing unnecessary hardware activity during lower-load periods. The initiative could support more efficient 5G and non-terrestrial network infrastructure. However, the companies have not disclosed a commercial deployment schedule, quantified energy savings, participating base stations or contract value.

Taara Deploys 10 Gbps Wireless Optical Link Across Seven Miles in Rural Texas

Taara and communications infrastructure specialist Rountree announced on November 4 that they had deployed a high-capacity wireless optical network in Bosque County, Texas. The system connects Parsons Sports Ranch to a telecommunications tower approximately seven miles away, providing 10 Gbps symmetrical connectivity. Installation was completed within one day, avoiding a proposed fiber construction project estimated at $300,000–$500,000 with a deployment period exceeding 12 months. Taara Lightbridge transmits data through narrow optical beams without requiring underground fiber construction. The infrastructure also supports additional community locations, including a marina, restaurant and event facilities. The project demonstrates an alternative high-capacity backhaul approach for locations where fiber construction is expensive or delayed.
