Canada Takes a Major Step to Stop Phone-Number Fraud

EnStream, a joint venture of Bell, Rogers and TELUS, has partnered with Proximus Global to introduce a real-time API that tackles recycled-number fraud in Canada. The solution lets businesses instantly verify whether a phone number has been reassigned, ensuring sensitive data like OTPs are sent only to the rightful user. With fraud losses averaging over CAD 2,000 per victim, the innovation strengthens digital trust while reducing manual verification workloads. EnStream provides direct carrier-sourced intelligence, while Proximus Global standardizes and delivers it through the API — supporting security-focused sectors including fintech, commerce, digital identity and communications.
