COAI Urges India to Reassess Spectrum Pricing for Faster Digital Growth

The Cellular Operators Association of India has called on the government to recalibrate spectrum pricing, arguing that current costs remain significantly higher than global benchmarks and place financial pressure on telecom operators. The industry body said more balanced pricing would encourage greater investment in network expansion, accelerate nationwide 5G deployment, and improve digital connectivity across urban and rural areas. COAI emphasized that affordable spectrum would allow operators to invest more in infrastructure, innovation, and service quality while supporting India’s digital economy objectives. The association also highlighted the importance of policy reforms that promote sustainable industry growth and long-term competitiveness.

Kenya Introduces New Telecom Equipment Licence to Strengthen Sector Oversight

Kenya has introduced a new telecommunications equipment licence aimed at improving regulatory oversight and ensuring that communication devices entering the market meet national standards. The licensing framework is intended to enhance quality assurance, strengthen cybersecurity, and improve compliance across the telecommunications sector.
