India to miss 10th position in broadband market to Mexico, says Broadband World Forum

Broadband World Forum today said Mexico is likely to displace India from the 10th position in the broadband market during the first half of 2014.

While India is currently in the 10th position, the industry association did not reveal the ranking of Mexico.

China (including all territories) remains the leader of the broadband market in 2013 with over 192 million subscribers, having added over 3 million new subscribers in Q4 alone.

There were no changes in the table of top 10 countries during the year, and just one change in positions as the Russian Federation passed France to take up fifth place in the table.

Broadband World Forum said both Russia and Brazil are likely to continue to move up the league table and Mexico is likely to displace India during the first half of 2014.

According to Broadband World Forum, the addition of 40 million new subscribers in 2013 takes total broadband lines to 678.6 million world-wide. DSL is still the predominant technology, but fiber continues to outpace all access types in new deployments.

IPTV is nearing the 100 million subscriber threshold with 21 percent growth in 2013 and 17 million new subscribers taking the total to 96 million in 2013.
