Using expertise of Yahoo Japan, Bharti Airtel SoftBank set to launch mobile Web portal in India

Telecom Lead India: India’s leading service provider
Bharti Airtel is ready to start a joint mobile Internet portal with Japan’s
SoftBank.

The mobile Internet portal called BSY will be launched
later this month in India. The new service by the companies will leverage the
expertise of Yahoo Japan, a subsidiary of Yahoo Inc which SoftBank holds a 42
percent stake in.

Kavin Bharti Mittal, head of strategy and new product
development at BSB said that the opportunity is exactly what brought the
telecom giants together and the portal is an important step to drive the uptake
of mobile internet and data services in India.

Both companies are collaborating for the second time to
launch this new service. Earlier in October last year, the companies started a
joint initiative called Bharti SoftBank (BSB). BSB was focused on developing content
for the mobile Web in India.

Yahoo Japan is the country’s most visited site and
possesses noteworthy mobile Web experience. Not only from web, but mobile phone
too generate significant traffic for the website.  According to Alexa,
visitors from mobile phones account for 20 percent of the site’s
monthly page views.

between Bharti Enterprises and SOFTBANK, partnered with mobile start-up firm
