Test and measurement market gearing up for consolidation

Telecom Lead India: The test and measurement (T&M)
market for networks and handsets is gearing up for consolidation.

In the recent past, Agilent Technologies, JDSU and Rohde
& Schwarz strengthened their T&M presence through acquisitions. More
acquisitions are in the offing, analysts said.

For example, early this year JDSU acquired Dyaptive Systems, a provider of capacity test
solutions for 2G, 3G and 4G wireless networks. Dyaptive test solutions support
network capacity planning and quality performance by emulating thousands of
mobile devices precisely as consumers use them to post videos, photos, stream
TV shows and movies, and video chat with friends.

JDSU plans to retain Dyaptive’s approximately 40
employees as well as its offices in Vancouver, BC.

Targeted M&A is part of JDSU’s growth
strategy.  We look for accretive acquisitions that complement our core and
adjacent markets and that support the needs of our customers. We will continue
to invest in areas that help support the networking market,” said Sandeep
Kapoor, country director – India, Communications Test at JDSU India.

On Monday, Agilent Technologies announced its intention
to buy the assets of AT4 wireless’ Test Systems business. Privately held AT4
wireless, based in Malaga, Spain, is a global provider of testing services and
solutions for wireless communications.

The wireless test portfolio from AT4 wireless will enable
Agilent to offer its customers an even broader set of test solutions,
especially in the rapidly growing LTE market. In addition, the acquisition will expand
Agilent’s wireless test footprint by adding NFC/RFID and Bluetooth test
solutions for conformance and R&D.

We are very excited to further extend our lead in
wireless test by adding products, test coverage and critical talent through
this acquisition. LTE represents the future of wireless communications, and AT4
wireless has a proven track record of delivering innovative conformance and
R&D test solutions to the market, when the market needs them,” said Guy
Séné, president of Agilent’s Electronic Measurement Group.

Going forward, AT4 wireless will continue growing
internationally, investing in new testing services to better serve the wireless
industry, expanding services for carriers globally and building new testing
services in emerging wireless markets,” said Luis Fernando Martinez, general
director of AT4 wireless.

The Test Systems business includes 130 employees in
Malaga, who will transfer to Agilent when the acquisition is final.

AT4 wireless’ other businesses – Testing &
Certification Services and IT Services & Solutions – are not part of the
pending acquisition by Agilent.

Rohde & Schwarz to buy SwissQual to strengthen test market
presence

Test and measurement major Rohde & Schwarz is set to
buy SwissQual, a provider of systems for measuring and assessing the quality of
service (QoS) in wireless networks.

The acquisition of SwissQual will enable Rohde &
Schwarz to address the drive test market with a complete technological
offering.

3G and 4G to drive Indian Test and Measurement market

Recently, Frost & Sullivan said the Indian Test and
Measurement market has been driven by the global and domestic demand. The
domestic demand has risen over the past 18 months, to make the Test and
Measurement market realize opportunities from every sector in India.
