Samsung unveils Galaxy Note 800 tablet at a price of Rs 39,990

Telecom Lead India: Smartphone major Samsung India has
unveiled Galaxy Note 800 tablet at a price of Rs 39,990. Samsung will be
targeting school students in India to increase the tablet penetration.

The GALAXY Note 800 is an extension of the GALAXY Note
category.

It features the S Pen with a 10.1-inch large display.

Samsung has preloaded Adobe’s creative application,
Photoshop Touch.

The 1.4GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB RAM enables users
to handle the Galaxy Note 800 seamlessly.

India is one of the first 10 markets in the world where
the Galaxy Note 800 is being launched.

Ranjit Yadav, country head, Samsung Mobile & IT, said
Samsung Galaxy Note 800 provides a unique user experience that goes beyond
passive content consumption to a new world of productivity, active creation and
personalized communications.

Samsung is trying to gain more market share in Indian tablet
market. Apple’s iPad was leading the Indian tablet market with 51 percent
market share in 2011.

Samsung with its Galaxy Tab had 24 percent market share
in 2011. The number third player was RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook. The achievement
of both Apple and Samsung was despite a series of low-cost media tablet
launches in the second half of 2011.

Recently, Frost & Sullivan said tablet PC users in India
will increase at CAGR of 107% by 2017. With this mind, Samsung is trying to
tap several industry verticals including education segment to sell tablets.

Tablet war in the Indian telecom market has prompted Samsung to
launch a number of tablets in the country.

Samsung mobile country did not disclose its strategies to
gain market share. To a specific query on recent media reports about his likely
move to Samsung’s rival Apple, Ranjit Yadav said he is very much with Samsung
and he has not resigned.

Explaining features of GALAXY Note 800, Ranjit Yadav said
the new tablet comes with My Education, a new app that has been developed to
help school students to take advantage of the innovative and interactive
digital environment that they are constantly experiencing.

The app offers more than 10000 FREE videos that have been
curated by teachers and is the largest collection of educational videos mapped
to the Indian curriculum. These videos are relevant for all students from Class
I to XII.

The app also offers more than 800 education text books,
which would be the largest collection of educational e-books in India. Students
can also access assessment papers and can take assessments on real time basis,
which helps them in monitoring their own progress. And beyond e-books and
tests, students can access education related news as well, on the GALAXY Note
800 including board results, scholarships, admission dates etc. Students can
even get a directory of schools and colleges and locate them based on their own
location.
