Infinera posts net loss of $29.5 million for Q2 FY12

Telecom Lead America: Infinera Corporation, a
provider of digital optical communications systems, has posted revenues of
$93.5 million for the second quarter of 2012, as compared $96 million in the
second quarter of 2011.

Revenues for the product segment stood at $77.8 million
for Q2 FY12, as compared to $84.3 million for the same quarter a year earlier.
Services segment fetched $15 million for Q1 FY12, against $10.7 million for Q2
FY11.


The company has posted net loss of $29.5 million for the
second quarter FY12, against net loss of $24.1 million for the year earlier
quarter.


Operating expenses were $61.7 million for Q2 FY12, as
compared to $61.49 million for the same quarter a year earlier.


Gross margin for the second quarter of 2012 was 35
percent compared to 39 percent in the first quarter of 2012 and 39 percent in
the second quarter of 2011.


“We executed well on our commitment to deliver the
DTN-X to the market in the second quarter, completing critical customer trials
and shipping the platform to customers for deployment as promised. Reception to
the DTN-X, featuring 500 Gb/s long haul super-channels along with WDM and
integrated OTN switching, has been very positive and broad-based,” said Tom
Fallon, president and chief executive officer.


The company said till now, it has received purchase
commitments for the DTN-X from ten customers, including three customers new to
Infinera. These customers represent a cross section of our markets, including
cable, subsea, internet content, research & education, and Tier 1
providers.


The company expects to remain on track to recognize
revenues from DTN-X sales beginning in the third quarter.


Infinera offers Coherent 40 Gbps DTN solution to Telstra
International


In March this year, Infinera announced that Telstra
International, a division of Telstra Corporation deployed Infinera’s 40
gigabits per second (Gbps) DTN solution for its optical subsea network in
Asia.
