Belgium telecom operator KPN taps ZTE for packet core network

Telecom Lead Asia: KPN Group Belgium (KPNGB) is revamping
its packet switched core network infrastructure.

The network expansion will enable KPN Group Belgium to
deliver differentiated services, further enhancing its service innovation
capability and network competitive strength. The new CN project is another step
to enhancing KPN’s overall network performance.

For sourcing packet switched core network, KPN Group
Belgium has selected ZTE.

This is the second such contract between ZTE and KPN. In
September 2010, ZTE and KPN Germany signed a CN construction project.

ZTE, in a statement, said the ZTE Uni-Core solution
supports seamless evolution from 2G/3G packet core to evolved packet core
(EPC), and assists operators in supporting unified 2G, 3G and 4G access.

The Chinese telecom equipment maker helps operators to
build a smart pipe that supports service differentiation and traffic
distribution, and enables a flexible policy mechanism.

Tom Poelhekken, CTO, KPNGB, said KPN has strict
requirements for vendor and partner relationships.

Xu Ziyang, vice president, ZTE, said ZTE meets those
requirements by providing efficient and innovative solutions to make an
effective contribution to improving network performance for the KPN Group.

As of Q1 2012, ZTE has secured over 20 EPC commercial
contracts, deployed more than 80 trial networks globally, and has cooperation
with mainstream operators including Vodafone, China Mobile, KPN, Telenor, CSL,
H3G and America Movil.

MTN Nigeria selects ZTE to deploy 3G networks in Nigeria

Recently, ZTE signed a deal with MTN Nigeria to deploy
GSM/UMTS networks in Nigeria. ZTE will help MTN Nigeria modernize and expand
its mobile network in two economically developed regions including 8 states.

Huawei to assist KPN to replace IT Business Support System

Recently, KPN tied up with Huawei to replace multiple
legacy IT Business Support System. Huawei will offer a single next generation
converged BSS solution for the retail and wholesale markets in the Netherlands.
Moreover, Huawei will support KPN to ensure this IT and business
transformation program is a success.
