Intelsat 37e satellite takes off

Intelsat 37e LaunchIntelsat announced the launch of Intelsat 37e satellite — manufactured by Boeing — to manage the mobility and wireless infrastructure needs of its customers.

Intelsat said Speedcast, Omni-Access, Algeria Telecom and TIM Brazil will be deploying services on Intelsat 37e.

The all-digital Intelsat 37e satellite offers interconnectivity between C-, Ku- and Ka-bands for use in wireless backhaul, enterprise VSAT, government and mobility networks.

Following the liftoff at 5:56 pm EDT aboard an Ariane 5 launch vehicle from Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana, the Intelsat 37e satellite separated from the rocket’s upper stage at 6:25 pm EDT.

“Intelsat 37e is an addition to our Intelsat EpicNG network. It brings new technology and resilience as we continue to deploy the first, all-digital, high-throughput satellite system,” said Stephen Spengler, Intelsat’s CEO.

The satellite company said Intelsat 37e features enhanced power sharing technology and steerable beams, which bring flexibility to meeting regional and application requirements over the life of the satellite.

The C-band payload presents a mix of high-power spot and wide beams to deliver additional services and improved throughput. The Ku- and Ka-band steerable beams will increase network access and support high-demand areas for government and commercial mobility applications.

Intelsat 37e improves the resiliency of IntelsatOne Flex managed platform, bringing throughput to support enterprise, broadband, government and mobility applications in the Americas, Africa and Europe.

Intelsat 37e features enhanced power sharing technology to enable power to be assigned between shaped, fixed and steerable spot beams at Ku-band. This new capability augments flexibility within the payload to optimize connectivity and increase efficiency as requirements shift over time.

Intelsat 37e will replace Intelsat 901, which will be repositioned.
