Telecom Lead India: Broadcasting digitization (Cable TV and DTH) initiative of the country has reached 84 percent in Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Chennai.

Cable TV Digitization in India has touched 77 percent. Considering the progress made by DTH in this sector the level of digitization goes up to 84 percent in four metros. India’s target is to achieve 100 percent by October 30.

In Cable digitization, Mumbai is leading with 99 percent, followed by Kolkata (73 percent), Delhi (66 percent) and Chennai (59 percent).

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said Delhi has 29.39 lakh TV households. Six private DTH operators have connected 9.45 lakh households.  Multi System Operators have supplied 15.88 lakh Set Top Boxes (STBs) in Delhi against a target 23.93 lakh subscribers that require STBs.

On 28 September, the government said India’s four metro cities have achieved 73 percent of Cable TV digitization (including DTH users) target.
