Telecom network vendor ADTRAN announced that several service providers including Telecom Italia are conducting G.fast broadband trials to strengthen their fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) initiatives.
The company said telecom service providers in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific are conducting G.fast trials.
The ADTRAN 500G Series, a part of fiber-to-the-distribution point (FTTdp) portfolio, enables telecom service providers to maximize bandwidth from their existing infrastructure in order to offer better speed for their broadband services.
One of the main benefits of G.fast FTTdp is that it reduces installation impacts and costs of FTTH.
Andrea Calvi, responsible for IP Networks, at Telecom Italia, said: “We were pleased to have had ADTRAN demonstrate a real-world FTTdp solution based on the G.fast standard.
“We expect many of these progressive operators to begin finalizing their G.fast rollout strategies and procedures in readiness for the general availability of commercial G.fast solutions in 2015,” said Eduard Scheiterer, senior vice president and managing director, international markets for ADTRAN.
