Tata Docomo (Tata Teleservices) will offer free Wi-Fi services for 15 minutes in AC executive buses of Kolkata, India. Initially, it will be available in two routes. TTSL is using Photon Max Wi-Fi to connect travelers.
The Wi-Fi service in its pilot phase is available on two routes plying on Airport – Tollygunge (via Sector V) and Barasat – Chetla (via Airport – to exide- to Rasbihari avenue). The telecoms plans to expand to other routes depending on consumer response.

Buses offering this service will be carrying Tata Docomo logo on their body and will have the details of Log in process on the back of every seat. Users can either A) Scan QR code or B) Tap for NFC connectivity – to receive password. The phone number of the commuter’s smartphone will work as the registration gateway and they will get the password as an SMS on phone.

Ashok Ghose, MBU Head – East, Tata Docomo, said, “In Kolkata these buses cover the length and breadth of the city ferrying young professionals, students, general passengers; Often on the long journey you find commuters doing work, watching movie on their laptop or iPads, reading on their Kindles or listening to music on their smart phones.”

Last month, Tata Docomo had set up a public Wi-Fi hotspot at the 2014 Auto Expo, New Delhi by connecting the entire auto expo zone with its connectivity solutions. TTSL’s public Wi-Fi hotspot covers an area of approx 100,000 sq m spread across 16 halls, food courts, fine dining zone, media lounge & VIP zones.
