Samsung, Aircel and Google to promote mobile Internet among Indian women

Smartphone vendor Samsung Electronics, telecom operator Aircel and online search engine Google announced their initiative to promote mobile Internet among Indian women.

As part of Google’s Helping Women Get Online (HWGO) initiative, Aircel will provide free 500 MB data access for up to 6 months with select Samsung smartphone purchase to encourage women to go online and use mobile internet.

The initiative will be executed through ground activations and trainers will use Samsung smartphones — powered by Aircel data — to showcase Internet and its uses. There will be a dedicated Helping Women Get Online toll free number 1800 41 999 77 to handle queries.

Target would be to offer Internet training in cities and towns across 12 states in the country, targeting over 4 million literate women from low income groups. The program also targets girl students with an aim to build them as influencers.

“With the help of mobile Internet, women can leverage new opportunities, educate themselves and lead a better life,” said Sandeep Menon, director — Marketing, Google India.
