Ooredoo Maldives smart city program

Ooredoo Maldives announced its Smart City initiative in the country.

As part of Smart City initiative, the telecom service provider introduced Ooredoo Wi-Fi Hangout Areas across prime spots in the capital city including hospitals, ferry terminals, youth center and cafes – offering affordable internet connection.

Recently, Indian telecom service provider Reliance Communications announced its IoT business in association with Jasper to tap the smart city projects in the country. The government is setting up 100 smart cities.

Ooredoo said it will be providing free Wi-Fi access at public utility areas such as IGMH hospital, ferry terminals and the youth center. Customers are able to use 50 Mb of data per day with the free Wi-Fi service. As part of promotional offer, Ooredoo will offer free Wi-Fi access at Ooredoo Wi-Fi Hangout Areas till the end of September.

“The smart cities concept is synonymous with our belief that we can leverage technology to stimulate human growth across our footprint,” said Ooredoo Maldives CEO Vikram Sinha.

Ooredoo is already working with a number of leading organisations to develop smart cities, and has signed an alliance with KT Corporation of Korea to introduce new concepts and innovations.
