Jio fixed broadband download speed surges 120 percent

Jio achieved the largest increase in download speed over fixed broadband during the past 12 months with 120.1 percent increase, according to Speedtest Intelligence data released today by Ookla.

Jio, the number one 4G operator, has been running its fiber powered fixed broadband network to select users across the country as part of the free trials.

Reliance Jio Fiber will be available from September 5 after its trial phase. Reliance Jio Fiber is the company’s fiber optic broadband service.

Reliance Jio Fiber data plans start at Rs 700 and go up to Rs 10,000. Jio will reveal more details on its prices later. Jio Fiber priced at Rs 700 will offer 100 Mbps speeds. The Jio Fiber plan priced at Rs 10,000 will offer 1 Gbps of data speeds.

Reliance Jio will run a limited time Welcome Offer for Fiber annual subscription plans in India. Internet customers opting for the Jio Fiber annual plans will get a 4K set top box and HD or 4K LED TV or home PC for free.

Airtel will also be offering special broadband pricing to compete with Reliance Jio and others.

India’s download speed over fixed broadband achieved a 25.3 percent increase during the past 12 months, a 6.21 Mbps improvement, according to Ookla.

BSNL increased its fixed broadband speed by 74.2 percent, GTPL 32.1 percent, Airtel 23.8 percent, YOU Broadband 13.9 percent, and ACT 12 percent. Hathway’s mean download speed over fixed broadband fell 0.2 percent. ACT was the fastest provider for each of the 12 months.
