Huawei supplies VDSL2 Vectoring technology to eircom to offer up to 100 Mbps Internet speed

Telecom network vendor Huawei recently said it supplied VDSL2 Vectoring technology to eircom to offer up to 100 Mbps broadband speeds to 700,000 homes and businesses across Ireland.

Huawei said Vectoring on VDSL2 technology uses noise cancelling technology that strengthens the broadband signal to boost broadband speeds to homes and businesses.

Eircom has deployed Vectoring on VDSL2 technology to the vast majority of eircom’s 3,000 fiber broadband cabinets till March 2014. eircom estimates that at least 70 percent of the approximately 700,000 homes and businesses currently passed by its fiber to the cabinet (FTTC) network will be able to achieve speeds of between 70Mbps and 100Mbps.

Analysys Mason estimates that by 2020 European homes and small businesses will need download speeds of 100Mbps.

Carolan Lennon, managing director eircom Wholesale, said: “With the deployment of vectoring we’re making those speeds available to homes and businesses within our existing national fiber footprint now, and the 1.4 million homes and businesses we intend to reach by 2016.”
