Convergence India 2017 shows telecom’s growth potential with IoT

Convergence India 2017
The huge participation at the Convergence India 2017, the largest trade event in the Indian telecom market, is indicating that the industry is going to thrive in the next 5-10 years.

Several established technology companies – Cisco, Ericsson, MediaTek, Sterlite Tech, Anritsu, Keysight Technologies, Viavi, Digisol, D-Link, Cambium Networks, Matrix, Hughes, MAIPU, DCN, Savitri Telecom Services, *astTECS, Newtec, among others.

Organizers of the Convergence India 2017 have claimed that the trade show on the telecom and IoT segments is 50 percent larger than the previous year – with the participation of 635 exhibitors from 31 countries.

Convergence India 2018 will be organized in Noida on 17-19 January.
Convergence India 2017 in DelhiSeveral key tech companies have participated at the telecom industry’s largest trade show in India. The main value addition was the participation from IoT companies. With 5G becoming a reality in 2020 globally, IoT will gain momentum in India as well. IoT will become a strong revenue booster for Indian telecom operators as well.

Sandeep Kapoor, country head – marketing and business development, Keysight Technologies, says: “Testing activities for both 5G and IoT have already begun by several Indian R&D organizations. There will be a business boom for all communication companies.”

Frost & Sullivan says India is poised to be among the top five economies in the world by 2020. Home to over a billion mobile subscribers and the second largest Internet user base in the world, India will become a force.

“Deploying country-wide fibre network and providing public Wi-Fi connectivity are crucial mandates for driving the Digital India and Make in India initiatives,” said Vidya S Nath, research director, Digital Media Practice, Frost & Sullivan.

The telecom growth in India will be supported by the expansion of mobile Internet and fixed broadband coverage across the country.

Rural Internet will grow 40 percent annually for the next three years, and video consumption on the Internet will grow 5-fold by 2020. This will alter the course of the telecom and broadcast industries. SMAC along with cyber security and IoT will be the essential elements for an organization in India to drive its digital transformation strategy.

Sanjay Kaul, managing director of Cisco India & SAARC, said: “Digitisation will impact all industries and it may seem as a disruption in the beginning, but at the end it will be valuable for the progress of the country.”

Though Convergence India is attracting several key technology companies to set up their booths, all telecom operators – Airtel, Idea Cellular, BSNL, Vodafone, Reliance Jio, etc gave a miss in terms of their booth presence. Without the participation of telecom operators at this kind of trade shows, the industry will not be able to innovate further.
