The global tablet AP market posted 28 percent growth in revenue terms to reach $778 million in Q3 2020, Strategy Analytics said.

The worldwide tablet market grew 19.5 percent to 52.2 million units in the fourth quarter of 2020, says International Data Corporation (IDC).

Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, Amazon.com and Lenovo are the top five tablet suppliers in the world during Q4 2020.

Apple once again led the tablet market with 36.5 percent market share and year-over-year growth of 19.5 percent during 4Q20. The new iPad 10.2” and iPad Air 10.9” tablets launched in the last two quarters helped drive sales during the holiday quarter.

Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek and Samsung LSI captured the top-five tablet applications processor (AP) revenue share slots in Q3 2020. Apple led the tablet AP market with 46 percent revenue share in Q3 2020, followed by Intel with 17 percent and Qualcomm with 12 percent.

Intel’s x86 chips accounted for 12 percent of tablet AP shipments in Q3 2020. Qualcomm has not made a dent in Intel’s tablet share in the Windows ecosystem.

“We believe that the Arm ecosystem and Microsoft should take a leaf out of Apple’s M1 success and work together to accelerate the Windows on Arm ecosystem development,” Sravan Kundojjala, associate director of Strategy Analytics, said.

The tablet AP market is on pace to register its first annual shipment growth in six years, driven by pandemic trends such as remote working and learning, Stephen Entwistle, vice president of the Strategic Technologies Practice, said.
