FCC appoints Francisco Salguero as the new CIO

Francisco Salguero is appointed as the new Chief Information Officer of Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Announcing the appointment, FCC chairman Ajit Pai said, “The Commission’s aggressive agenda requires an expert and agile information technology team.  That team needs a leader with deep expertise in all aspects of IT development, deployment, and information security.”

The appointment gains greater significance especially because the Congress last year enhanced the responsibilities of the FCC’s CIO, and FCC has codified them in their rules, Pai said.

Prior to being named chief information officer, Salguero worked at U.S. Department of Agriculture for fourteen years, most recently as Deputy Chief Information Officer, where, among other things, he provided strategic oversight of the Department’s $2 billion information technology portfolio.

John Skudlarek has been serving as the acting CIO for FCC.
