China Mobile and China Unicom to start 5G trials

China Mobile and China Unicom today announced they received approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) to use spectrum for starting 5G mobile trials in the country.
Huawei 5G base station in ChinaChina Mobile will use the frequency bands of 2515MHz2675MHz and 4800MHz-4900MHz for conducting the trial of 5G networks till 30 June 2020.

China Mobile said 2515MHz-2575MHz, 2635MHz-2675MHz and 4800MHz4900MHz bands are newly-added bands. China Mobile said it will re-farm the 2575MHz-2635MHz, the existing TD LTE bands, for the purpose of 5G.

China Unicom has a 4G subscriber-base of 215.892 million in October 2018 by adding 2.042 million last month.

China Unicom said it received the approval to use the frequency band of 3500-3600MHz for launching the trial of 5G mobile nationwide in mainland China till 30 June 2020.

Unicom Group will gradually stop using the frequency band of 2555-2575MHz nationwide in China before 31 March 2019, and will return the spectrum to MIIT.

China Mobile has a 4G subscriber-base of 700.396 million in October 2018 as compared with 695.286 million in September 2018.
