4G will account for 64 percent of connections in Latin America by 2025.
Mobile operators in Latin America are investing more than $15 billion a year towards Capex for building out new networks, mainly 4.5G.
Smartphones account for 65 percent of Latin America’s 717 million mobile connections against 23 percent five years ago. 35 percent of smartphones are running on 4G in Latin America.
Video accounts for 56 percent of traffic. Video is expected to grow by around 45 percent annually through 2023 to account for 73 percent of all mobile data traffic, according to
GSMA’s latest Global Mobile Trends report, published at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 Americas.
“The emergence of quad-play services in Latin America has opened the door to new services based around content and it’s also spurring new forms of collaboration among mobile operators, media groups, OTTs and film studios,” said Sebastian Cabello, head of Latin America, GSMA.
3G or 4G coverage reached 79 million people in Brazil but not connected. 3G or 4G coverage reached 53 million people in Mexico but not connected. 3G or 4G coverage reached 23 million people in Colombia but not connected. The largest barrier to mobile internet is a lack of relevant content, GSMA said.
