SoftBank Mobile selects Skyhook to improve location performance on handsets

Telecom Lead Asia Pacific: Skyhook, a provider of
location positioning, context and intelligence, announced that Skyhook Location
will be deployed by Japanese mobile operator SoftBank Mobile.

SoftBank Mobile plans to enhance the location accuracy,
availability and power consumption profile of handsets by incorporating
Skyhook’s market-leading Location Engine on new SoftBank phones.

“Accurate location information is becoming increasingly
important on mobile devices. SoftBank Mobile has partnered with Skyhook to
improve location performance for mobile devices,” said Makoto Tatsumi, senior
general manager, Product and Service Division of SoftBank Mobile.

The Japanese operator recently launched a family of
handsets designed to address the unique safety and security requirements. These
new devices have several innovative features that are designed to better
protect customers.

The specialized features include a location-based
security alarm and automatic SMS messaging of location. Skyhook’s Location
Engine will not only improve the performance but will also reduce power
expenditure and extend battery life.

Deploying Skyhook’s platform will enhance the safety and
user experience of SoftBank customers. This milestone represents not only an
expansion of our partnership with SoftBank but also another important step in
Skyhook’s advance into Asian markets,” said Michael Shean, founder and senior
vice president, business development, Skyhook.

Skyhook is the recognized leader in geo-location
technology and fulfills hundreds of millions of location requests daily across
over 100 million handsets, tablets, netbooks, cameras and other mobile devices.
