Vodafone to use MNP route to tap Reliance Communications’ consumers

Vodafone India SIM cardsThe strategy of Vodafone India, which has 210 million wireless customers including over 114 million in rural areas, is to tap Reliance Communications’ consumers through mobile number portability (MNP).

Reliance Communications last week said it would stop voice business on 2G and 3G networks and will continue data business on 4G network as part of its new strategy to revive the debt-ridden telecom operations.

“Reliance Communications customers can use Vodafone network for facilitating their Port-out requests. This is being done to facilitate porting out and ease connectivity for customers facing network shutdown,” Vodafone India said.

Vodafone is not offering the MNP options in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Gujarat.

Vodafone India is giving the MNP options for all wireless customers in UP West, Kerala, Haryana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Punjab, UP East, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra & Goa and Karnataka.

Reliance communications customers need to:

# Go to network settings on their mobile handsets, manually select Vodafone network

# Generate MNP code by sending PORT <Reliance Number> to 1900

# Submit this MNP code along with Mandatory documents and photographs at the nearest Vodafone store or Vodafone retailer

# Customers can call toll-free number 1800 1234567 from any phone

“We are extending our value for money propositions for all customers, facing network shutdown,” said Avneesh Khosla, associate director – Consumer Business, Vodafone India.
