Aviat Networks doubles capacity of IRU 600 microwave platform

Aviat NetworksMicrowave networking solutions company Aviat Networks announced that it more than doubled over-the-air capacity of IRU 600 microwave platform.

The new radio card RAC70 will enable 1024QAM and 60/80MHz wide channels will maximize capacity in the 6 & 11GHz frequency bands. Over the air throughput, without compression or dependency on packet/frame sizes, increases from 188Mbps to over 450Mbps in the 6GHz band.

These capabilities increase capacity, while customers will also be future proofing their network as RAC70 is capable of 4096QAM modulation working with future versions of Aviat radio units which will begin rolling out this calendar year. This will ultimately result in over 250 percent more capacity than the current offering.

“IRU 600 is the leading radio platform for mission critical networks in North America. With Aviat’s continued investment in this solution, customers can be confident in knowing they can depend on IRU 600 for years to come,” said Michael Pangia, president and CEO, Aviat Networks.

Aviat supplied IRU 600 to all 50 states in the US, in 50 percent of the leading U.S. Utilities, and in the world’s largest LTE networks.

“With the need for enhanced video and data communications, many state and local government entities need to upgrade their networks to support large scale incident response,” said Richard Webb, research director for Mobile Backhaul & Small Cells, IHS Markit.

Aviat Networks earlier announced ODU LLR, a tower top low latency microwave radio to support financial trading applications. The ODU LLR utilizes Aviat’s low latency modem technology designed to significantly reduce per hop latency.
