Revenue for Access equipment surges 10% in Q4, says Dell’Oro Group

Team:
In the fourth quarter, revenue for Access equipment
(Cable + DSL + PON) including infrastructure equipment and CPE surged 10
percent sequentially and 9 percent over the year ago period, according to a
report by Dell’Oro Group.

The report reveals that increasing subscriber
bandwidth requirements drove Cable operators to add DOCSIS 3.0 capacity and
telecom service providers to accelerate new VDSL and PON network build-outs in
the fourth quarter.

“Within Access, PON growth was strongest and was not
only driven by the massive deployments in China but also by
increasing fiber deployments in other regions,” said Steve Nozik,
Principal Analyst of Access research at Dell’Oro Group.

The report shows that in the fourth quarter, Cisco was
the lead CMTS vendor followed by Arris.  For GPON, Huawei was the leader
followed by Alcatel-Lucent.  For VDSL, Alcatel Lucent holds the top spot.

“Next strongest was Cable as operators added DOCSIS
3.0 capacity to keep up with rapidly increasing video internet traffic. For
DSL, despite the overall market trending lower, the higher-speed VDSL segment
is growing with port shipments reaching a record level,” Nozik
added.

In its third-quarter report,  Dell’Oro Group said that penetration of higher functioned Cable CPE including DOCSIS 3.0
enabled devices, as well as those that have embedded wireless LAN, is rapidly
increasing as shipments for CPE bearing these features doubled over the
year-ago period during the third quarter of 2011.
