Telecom Lead Team: At the Mobile World Congress, TomTom, a
global supplier of location and navigation products and services, announced it
is partnering with mobile device maker HTC to support location apps for HTC
smartphones in India. The company will provide the maps, points of interest and
turn-by-turn directions for a range of HTC smartphones in India.
This is the first consumer-focused implementation of
TomTom’s map data in the rapidly growing Indian market, the company said.
We are excited to expand our global offerings by
powering the map services for all HTC smartphones in India,” said Nuno
Campos, vice president of Sales and Marketing for TomTom Licensing. This is our
first major partnership in India, and we look forward to providing HTC and its
customers with the most comprehensive and easy to use maps and navigation
services.”
India is a potential market for mobile device makers and
application development companies. ABI Research, in its latest study, forecast
that more than 5.2 million smartphones will ship to India in 2012; this number
is projected to more than triple by 2015.
India is not only a key market for HTC, but also
one of the largest countries with the second largest population in the
world,” said Faisal Siddiqui, country manager, HTC India. We believe
TomTom is the ideal partner to provide the most current map data that will
enable Indian consumers to use their HTC smartphones to navigate accurately and
effortlessly.”
Mobile World Congress 2012: TomTom expands real time traffic
products to five more countries in EU
At the Mobile World Congress, TomTom also announced
expansion of coverage of its portfolio of real time traffic products for
licensing customers to include the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Norway and
Sweden. With this expansion, the total number of countries offering TomTom
real-time traffic products has become 23.
