Enterprise networking major Cisco Systems has bagged a pilot project for implementing Smart City in Hyderabad.

The Telangana government, Cisco and Mtuity have come together to plan Smart City Hyderabad by identifying relevant technology interventions/use cases.

Under the MoU signed with the state government, the two companies will implement the pilot project near the bustling Hitech City to showcase real benefit of implementing smart solutions and the impact of technology on society and human well-being.

“In due course of time the results of the pilot phase will be carefully studied by key government officials to advise Cisco and Mtuity on the technology interventions/use cases most relevant for bigger expansion across multiple pockets of Hyderabad city,” a state government statement said on Thursday.

The use cases proposed to be implemented during the pilot phase include smart WiFi, smart parking, parking enforcement to detect no parking, smart lighting, smart transport, smart kiosks, remote expert governance services, citizen services portal and citizen app.

In April, a MoU was signed by the state government with the two companies to foster innovation in Internet of Things and Smart Cities.

Meanwhile, Cisco on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Jharkhand government to enhance the information technology skills of students in engineering colleges and polytechnics across the state.

The MoU was signed by Ajoy Kumar Singh, Secretary in Jharkhand’s Department of Higher and Technical Education, and Dinesh Malkani, President, Cisco India and SAARC.

The partnership will focus on developing skills required for the new digital economy by providing them with the required technical knowledge through the Cisco Networking Academy Programme.

Cisco will set up 15 networking academies in the state that will train up to 6,000 students by 2020. IANS
