ZTE bags 100G optical network deal from Reliance Communications

Telecom network vendor ZTE announced its 100G optical transportation network (OTN) deal with Reliance Communications.

ZTE competes with Huawei, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent and Nokia Networks in the Indian telecom equipment market.

The Anil Ambani-promoted telecom network operator aims to develop Pune and Hyderabad’s 100G metro area transmissions and relieve LTE bandwidth requirement pressures.

As per the deal, ZTE will supply 100G optical transportation network and operations and maintenance services to Reliance Communications India in Pune and Hyderabad during the next three years.

ZTE did not reveal the size of the 100G deal.

The Chinese company will provide its ZXONE series of equipment to address the multi-service access and high integration requirements of Reliance Communications.

Reliance Communications India, the fourth largest telecom network operator in India, has 14.35 percent of Indian market share.

ZTE’s 100G OTN solution allows Reliance Communications to meet the growing data communication demands at a time when rival mobile networks are entering the LTE market. Reliance Communications earlier said it would offer 4G services through a partnership with Reliance Jio Infocomm, a company promoted by Mukesh Ambani.

Apart from Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular are the 4G licensee holders. Bharti Airtel has expanded its 4G coverage to more than 300 towns.

ZTE 100G OTN supports any access rate from E1/T1 to 100GE, 4-22 client port with smooth evolution, as well as dense and coarse wavelength in one.

Recently Ovum said that ZTE increased its market share in optical networking products to 28 percent globally in Q2 2015. By Q4 2014, ZTE had completed the deployment of more than 200 networks of 100G OTN with three major domestic operators in China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.

ZTE’s major overseas clients include EE UK, T-Mobile Austria, TIM Brazil, TEF Peru, PCCW HK and TELKOM Indonesia. ZTE has completed more than 200 100G OTN deployments, accumulated a 100G board delivery volume of more than 20,000 and 100G line length of more than 200,000 km.
