Tikona Digital Networks has selected ZTE to build 4G home broadband network on TD-LTE technology in five circles.

Tikona has already invested up to Rs 20 crore in Varanasi, one of the cities in India, for rolling out 4G LTE home broadband services. The broadband service provider has built capacities to cater for more than 50,000 broadband homes in the city.

The investment of Tikona for securing 20 MHz liberalised spectrum in the 2300 MHz band during the auctions in 2010 was Rs 1,500 crore.

Tikona is planning to invest another Rs 1,500 crore to roll out 4G home broadband services in more than 1,000 towns in the five circles of Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Gujarat, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, said ZTE in a statement.

“We are hopeful that subscribers in Varanasi will get to experience world class home broadband services which they can access conveniently for their personal usage. We plan launch 4G networks in other cities and circles in the near future,” said Prakash Bajpai, founder, MD and CEO of Tikona.

ZTE also said it signed 185 4G LTE / EPC commercial contracts globally, partnering with telecoms including Bharti Airtel, China Mobile, China Telecom, Hutchison, Softbank, Telenor, TeliaSonera, Vodafone, VimpelCom, MTN and Telefonica.

Meanwhile, market research agency Ovum said ZTE gained significant market share within the digital subscriber line (DSL) product market. The company also showed a market share growth within the passive optical network (PON) segment, ranking second in the global PON equipment market. On a regional basis, ZTE ranked first in PON equipment market share in South and Central America, and second in Asia Pacific.
