Network vendor ZTE announced its latest strategies to boost business from carriers, enterprises, public sector customers and consumers.
ZTE today said it will step up research on 5G, SDN (Software Defined Networks), cloud computing, Big Data and NFV (network function virtualization).
The Chinese technology company did not specify its investment plans. Incidentally, there is nothing new its M-ICT strategies announced by ZTE Chief Technology Officer Zhao Xianming.
Xianming during an analyst meet said: “In the future, billions of objects and machines will acquire broadband connectivity, and data growth will be further accelerated as industries and government services become digitalized.”
Recently, ZTE signed partnerships with carriers including China Mobile and SoftBank for its pre5G network solutions, which enable customers to emulate 5G network characteristics and performance on existing 4G infrastructure.
ZTE will focus on in SDN and NFV technologies to help mobile operators to scale and ensure flexible network infrastructures. In 2014, ZTE launched its ElasticNet SDN IPRAN (internet protocol radio access network) solution to help customers virtualize access-layer equipment, to simplify network operations and maintenance.
In the enterprise and government division, ZTE will focus on verticals such as transportation, energy, financial services, public sector and the Internet. At present, ZTE is unable to achieve any significant deals comparing with HP, Cisco, IBM, etc.
ZTE’s Smart City 2.0 solutions will drive innovations in technology and operation management for public sector customers. ZTE has deployed its Smart City solutions in more than 110 cities to deliver public services including healthcare and education to residents.
In 2014, ZTE set up the Smart Voice Alliance with partners including Baidu, Nuance and Ambience to drive innovation in next-generation voice control on smart devices.
ZTE, a small player based on revenue from telecom network business, is trying to compete with telecom network vendors such as Huawei, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson and Nokia Networks in the SDN and NFV areas.
