UQ Communications deploys Ericsson’s MIMO technology

Telecom network vendor Ericsson on Friday announced that UQ Communications Japan has deployed 4X4 multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) across their WiMAX 2+ network supporting up to 220 Mbps speed.

Recently, SK Telecom, a 4G mobile service provider in Korea, has demonstrated 600 Mbps data transmission rate by using Nokia Networks’ MIMO technology.

To demonstrate the 600 Mbps data transmission speeds, SK Telecom and Nokia Networks first realized 300 Mbps data rates by applying 4X4 MIMO technology to a contiguous 20 MHz block of spectrum. Later they combined two of these wideband LTE bandwidths using Carrier Aggregation (CA) technology to achieve 600 Mbps LTE-Advanced data speeds.

UQ Communications, a WiMax operator in Japan, will begin offering 220 Mbps 4×4 MIMO capable commercial devices in March. WiMAX 2+ service is compatible with LTE TDD.
