The name of the theme will be Unleashing the Potential of Communication.
Docomo said “its sessions will be explaining how communication will change as we approach 2020, the year of the Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Visitors at the MWC 2015 will experience demonstrations of technology for exceptional mobile voice quality, as well as devices featuring advanced mobile technologies and solutions from Docomo.
Docomo is conducting 5G experimental trials with blue-chip ICT vendors and sharing the latest results. 5G promises data transmission at more than 10 Gbps and provide 1,000 times the capacity of current LTE networks.
Docomo, as part of its plan to commercialize a virtualized Evolved Packet Core (EPC) in March 2016, has teamed up with ICT vendors to carry out the trials for verifying NFV feasibility. Visitors will learn about virtualization technologies expected beyond 2015, and phased developments for deploying a virtualized mobile network with dynamic control technology for commercial services.
The company will demo voice communication using EVS Codec for speech and music quality that is better than VoLTE.
The Japanese telecom operator will showcase a SIM-based authentication system that can wirelessly activate any compatible smartphone or tablet for network-access authentication with a simple wave — rather than inserting a SIM card — to replace the mobile device’s SIM function.
