Telecom network vendor Huawei today announced the launch of a research and development (R&D) campus in Bangalore, India.
The R&D campus in India is part of Huawei’s commitment to contribute to India government’s “Make in India” initiative, the company said.
The 1 million sq feet campus built on a 20 acre land will accommodate the Chinese telecom equipment company’s growing software development workforce in India.
The campus can accommodate up to 5000 engineers. The facility includes an R&D block, customer experience center and residential block for foreign employees.
Huawei has invested over $170 million in building the campus. At present the company has 2700 engineers out of which more than 98 percent are local employees, including those in leadership roles.
This is the largest R&D center of Huawei outside of China.
Wilson Wang, chief operating officer, Huawei India R&D Center, said, “The India R&D center will continue to focus on development and delivery of software platform component and applications for the various product lines of the company.”
