Nokia Networks Centralized RAN achieves 2.5 times faster speed for Elisa

Elisa, an LTE operator in Finland, has utilized Nokia Networks’ Centralized RAN to deliver data uploads more than two and a half times faster, while reducing smartphone power usage by one third at the packed Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.

Nokia Centralized RAN eliminates uplink congestion by utilizing interference and turning it into useful traffic. The demonstration showed that the telecom operator improved the average uplink throughputs by more than 2.5 times and extended the battery life by an average of 33 percent as devices no longer need to transmit at high power to fight interference.

Sami Komulainen, vice president, Mobile Network Services, Elisa, said: “We continuously search for new ways to improve our services furthermore. Our co-operation with Nokia guarantees fast LTE-network also in big mass events and our customers can share their experiences in social media.”

With 1.55 billion euros revenues in 2013, Elisa has nearly 2.3 million consumer, corporate and public administration organization customers in Finland.
