Huawei and China Telecom deploy optical transport SDN

Telecom equipment vendor Huawei, China Telecom Fujian (Fujian Telecom) and China Telecom Beijing Research Institute deployed Transport Software-Defined Network (T-SDN).

The T-SDN implements an intelligent private line Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) app for VIP customers over a transport network, and IP + Optical synergy for data centers, leading transport networks into the SDN era. Private line services for VIP customers present a strategic market for telecom providers in the world.

Zhang Chengliang, vice president of China Telecom Beijing Research Institute, said: “The deployment proves that SDN-based open architecture and the standard northbound interface can realize various innovative applications and interwork with network platforms.”

As part of the deployment, Huawei provided the network side T-SDN controller to deploy transport SDN that will assist China Telecom to lead the IT and intelligence transformation of transport networks.

Earlier, China Telecom Beijing Research Institute introduced the concept of intelligent private line based on Internet and SDN concepts developing a private line BoD app that enables tenants to apply for private line services online which are provisioned on-demand.

In addition, tenants can adjust the service bandwidth of private lines in real-time based on traffic volume. Operators can check the detailed service performance of each customer, facilitating analysis and prediction of customer behaviors and developing flexible private line services to generate more revenues.

Zha Jun, president of Huawei Fixed Network Product Line, said: “Huawei will continue to cooperate with China Telecom in developing cutting-edge 400G, 1T, 2T, and SDN technologies, and building a flexible, synergetic, intelligent, and open next-generation transport network.”
