Ericsson in broadband network deal with Algeria Telecom

Mobile network vendor Ericsson on Monday announced its deal with Algeria Telecom to transform the broadband aggregation network.

Ericsson, which competes with Nokia Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, Huawei and ZTE, will consolidate the existing network functions for a scalable architecture using the Ericsson SSR 8000’s Provider Edge (PE) and BNG applications.

The company did not share the size of the broadband deal.

Ericsson SSR 8000 enables Algeria Telecom to meet the growing demand for residential broadband connectivity and offer virtual private network (VPN) services for its enterprise customers.

The new modernized network will enable Algeria Telecom to meet this challenge as well as offer added-value triple play services with IPTV and video on demand. The lower TCO network enables Algeria Telecom to deliver secure Layer 3 VPN and internet to its enterprise customers.

In addition, the new converged, scalable IP infrastructure based on the multi-application SSR 8000 platform enables Algeria Telecom to implement new business models and provide multiple service offerings and addresses new opportunities with a quicker time to market.

Mohamed Sebaa, deputy chief executive officer, Algeria Telecom, said: “This new infrastructure based on Ericsson will provide the reliability, scalability, performance and flexibility for enabling us to offer more and better choices to both residential and enterprise customers.”

Algeria Telecom website says deploying and operating an extensive network of fixed 4G LTE as one of its objectives for 2014. The telecom operator also aims to connect 2 million users on mobile Internet, including 1 million subscribers at the end of 2013.
