Thailand telecom Planetcomm taps Calix E7-2 for GPON fiber network

Planet Communications, a broadband operator, has tapped Calix E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform and T-Series optical network terminals (ONTs) for a GPON residential and business fiber deployment in Thailand.

The network will cover major cities, including Bangkok and Pattaya, said Calix.

Planetcomm is planning to expand its fiber network to over 100,000 homes with fiber within the next five years and will begin delivering advanced IP services in the next year.

Besides delivering managed services such as IPTV, Planetcomm will also work with developers to offer services in new housing and industrial developments within urban settings.

In addition, Planetcomm can offer new services in existing residential developments by replacing cable and copper with fiber to provide high quality, ultra-fast broadband and enable IPTV, VoIP, and other advanced broadband services.

Prapat Rathlertkarn, CEO of Planetcomm, said: “We are at a critical phase of development in broadband infrastructure for Thailand, investing in our future in the global economy.”

Calix E7-2 enables Planetcomm to deliver broadband services over fiber with speeds up to 1 Gbps. Calix E7-2 supports any mix of GPON and point-to-point gigabit Ethernet (GE) to ensure flexibility to its telecom clients.
