Alcatel-Lucent in FTTx network deal with IP-Only

Alcatel-Lucent today said IP-Only, a wholesale broadband provider in the Nordic region, has selected its Point-to-Point Ethernet technology for a new fiber-to-the-premises (FTTx) network.

The network – to be built by Maintrac, Alcatel-Lucent’s channel partner in Sweden – will bring ultra-broadband access connectivity to homes and businesses across Sweden.

IP-Only will use the network to increase its market share in the wholesale market by leasing bandwidth of up to 1 Gbps to regional media and services providers, government organizations and enterprises throughout the country.

Alcatel-Lucent will supply its Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) solution with the Access Management System to IP-Only. The ISAM has the capacity and flexibility to converge business and residential services on the same network and supports an upgrade path to next-generation fiber technologies to protect the investment

Mikael Westerlund, CTO of IP-Only, said: “With 22 percent of Swedish households already enjoying broadband over fiber there are high expectations in our marketplace to be met. It’s important for IP-Only to have a solution that we can rely on not only in terms of performance but also in terms of flexibility and reliability to meet our ambitious growth plans in wholesale business and residential services.”

IP-Only’s investment in the new Point-to-Point fiber network for homes and businesses across Sweden provides a dedicated fiber connection to each customer and is capable of delivering high-speed, high-quality broadband services
