Xolo to launch 4D-LTE smartphone on Airtel 4G network

Xolo is planning to launch its first smartphone on Airtel 4G network this week, a source close to Xolo told Telecom Lead today.

The announcement is likely to happen in Bangalore.

Airtel 4G network is currently available in Kolkata, Chandigarh, Pune, and Bangalore. Airtel had applied to DoT seeking phone-number allocation for its 4G services.

In November Xolo announced it will launch the first 4G LTE enabled smartphone dubbed LT900 in India. However, the launch was delayed.

Media reports reveal that the smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor at 1.5 GHz. It will feature an 8 megapixel BSI sensor at the back. It features dual-LED flash and 4.3-inch HD IPS OGS display with a pixel density of 341 ppi.

Xolo LT900 will be the second smartphone to support 4G network on Airtel. Last year Huawei launched TD LTE smartphone Ascend P1 LTE  on Airtel network.

In another major development recently Airtel acquired a 100 percent stake in Wireless Business Services, a Qualcomm company.

Airtel, which will be competing with Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries (RIL) has the similar spectrum in Punjab, Maharashtra, Kolkata and Karnataka. Reliance Jio is in the process of rolling out 4G in select parts of India.

Qualcomm invested in BWA spectrum in these 4 circles to promote 4G in India and later to find a suitable partner.
