Lava supplies 11,000 M-TAB tablets to Meghalaya students

Indian smartphone major Lava International has supplied 11,000 M-TAB tablets to students in Meghalaya.

Lava, which competes with Samsung, Apple, Micromax, etc. in the Indian tablet market, says these devices were delivered to students under the Government’s Student Digital Learning Scheme.

The smartphone vendor has also tied up with iProf, a digital education solutions firm, as one of key content partners for this tablet.

Lava M-TAB comes with an in built education app called Digital Library which enables students to access the educational content.

Students can access study materials of Class XI and Class XII courses of CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and MBOSE (Meghalaya Board of School Education). Sample question papers for Medical and Engineering examinations, classroom teaching format video and audio books and Megh-Tube, a short video clip that showcases the development activities in Meghalaya have also been pre-loaded in the tablets on the 8GB memory card.

Lava education dreams

Lava is keen to support digital learning in India. India Ratings says the Indian education sector market size in FY 2012 was $54.20 billion.

Wi-Fi connectivity, tablets, smartphones and 3G cellular networks are driving technology adoption in Indian education space.

Lava aims to tap the Indian education industry, which is expected to increase to Rs 602,410 crore by FY 2015. Lava will have customized tablets.

SN Rai, co-founder & Director, Lava International, said that in the next two – three years the company foresees a strong adoption of tablets in India particularly in the Education sector.  Lava intends to tap this opportunity through its customized tablets for the education sector and provide better learning experience.

TechSci Research report says the Indian Tablet PC market will cross $2 billion of revenue by the end of 2013. One of the major contributors of this growth is increased use of tablets in education and enterprise sectors.
