Tecom Launches Complete Range of Small Cells Powered by Ubiquisys Femto-Engine Software

Tecom, Taiwan’s telecom equipment maker, announced the launch UMTS small
cells, powered by Femto-Engine intelligent cell software from Ubiquisys.
The range includes residential, enterprise and outdoor cells.

Until now, vendors have split their small cell portfolio, typically
using low-cost femtocell technology for residential deployments and using
traditionally-engineered picocell/microcell technology for enterprise and
public spaces.

Tecom’s products are different because the whole range is based on
self-organizing femtocell technology which dramatically reduces the deployment
and management costs, especially for enterprise and public space/outdoor cells.

“Tecom has a formidable reputation for product innovation in carrier,
enterprise and consumer markets. In little more than a year we have developed
the broadest range of intelligent small cells. The combination of Tecom
equipment innovation and Ubiquisys software intelligence creates a compelling
solution for mobile operators,” said Michael Kwan, CEO of Tecom.

The range consists of:

  • FC1020
Residential: a compact 8 call / 14.4Mbps HSPA femtocell with outputs of 10
or 20mW. Features Ubiquisys ActiveRadio technology for fully automatic,
    real-time interference management.
  • FC1060
Enterprise: a 16 call HSPA femtocell with outputs of 100 or 250mW. Can be
desk, wall or ceiling mounted. In addition to ActiveRadio, it features
Ubiquisys ActiveSONâ„¢ technology enabling femtocells to self-organise to
create a seamless and dynamic grid of enterprise coverage.
  • FC1080
Public space and outdoor: a 16 call HSPA small cell with outputs of 250mW
or 1W. IP67 enclosure can be pole, wall, vertically or horizontally
mounted. Features Ubiquisys ActiveRadio for automatic, real-time
    coordination with the macro network.

“Small Cell is a broad category that includes both traditional and
modern technology. By automating traditional radio planning, Ubiquisys
technology has changed the economics of coverage and capacity forever – not
just for residential, but for enterprise and public spaces as well. We’re
delighted that Tecom has incorporated Ubiquisys intelligence into its
leading-edge range of small cells,” said Chris Gilbert, CEO Ubiquisys.
