SeePort starts taking orders for Ufone video phone

SeePort, a consumer electronics startup focused on making
family connections easier, announced that it is now taking pre-orders of its
Ufone video phone on crowd source funding site, Kickstarter. User can make live
video calls with one touch connect on Ufone video phone.

Video calls are made over a home Wi-Fi network to join
families that are scattered across the country or the world. It’s
water-resistant with a unique portable design that weighs about two pounds so
it handles kitchen splashes and can be moved around the house during
conversations.

I really wanted my family to connect with video chat, so
I spent months sending webcams to everyone and helping them install software,”
said Lauren Elliott, CEO of SeePort.

It was a disaster. So I set out to design a device that
did one thing and did it well – make video calls. And it had to be so easy my
90-year old mom could use it,” Elliott added.

The Ufone video phone has an 8″ touchscreen to make live
video calls by simply tapping the screen. The 5 megapixel video camera is wide
angle to capture the room setting and audio is high quality so conversations
are more relaxed and natural. Because the Ufone video phone uses a home Wi-Fi
network, there are no additional monthly bills or subscriptions.

SeePort will have a free mobile app, Ufone Mobile, for
Android and iPhone, including the new iPhone 5. Ufone Mobile can send photos
and make live video calls to other Ufone customers. Family members who use
Skype on a Mac or PC will also be able to make live video calls to Ufone
customers.

For the next 60 days, through December 1, 2011, the Ufone video phone can be
pre-ordered on Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a new way for projects to get
funding and SeePort wants to be the first to reach $1million. Kickstarter
backers who pledge $250 are essentially pre-ordering a Ufone.
