Telecom Lead India: Various public sector banks have tapped Hughes Communications India to connect 27,000 off-site ATMs with a broadband satellite network over the next two years.
Hughes will also provide managed network services in a deal valued at Rs 200 crore over an eight year period.
The multi-million contract is awarded by eight Managed Service Providers (MSPs) — Accura Infotech, AGS Transact Technologies, EPS, FIS Global, Financial Software and Systems, MphasiS, NCR and Tata Communications Banking Infra Solutions.
Recently, Hughes said that the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has selected Hughes Communications India to connect over 3,000 branches with broadband satellite network and managed services. The value of the contract is Rs 33 crore for a period of five years.
Ministry of Finance and a consortium of all the public sector banks of India have contracted with nine different MSPs to install and manage a total of 63,000 off-site and on-site ATMs across urban and rural India. Six lead banks include State Bank of India, Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank Of Baroda, Union Bank of India and Canara Bank.
India currently has approximately 100,000 ATMs and this initiative is expected to increase the ATM density by over 60 percent.
“Upon completion, the project will bring our total managed sites to over 60,000, providing secure satellite connectivity with uptimes of greater than 99.9 percent and enabling twenty-four-seven banking services,” said Partho Banerjee, president and managing director at HCIL.
Hughes will install and operate its HN9200 and HN9400 satellite broadband terminals at ATM sites and provide managed services on a 24×7 basis through its shared Network Operations Centre (NOC), including IPSec security and satellite bandwidth.
According to TRAI data, Hughes has reported Rs 23.69 crore revenues from VSAT business during the quarter ended September 2012.
