Quality of Experience demands to drive Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) market to reach $2 billion in 2016

Telecom Lead Asia: Strategy Analytics said Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) market will reach $2 billion in 2016, driven by demand for better Quality of Experience.

The telecom research firm said DPI expands its role as a core element of cost reduction, improved user experience, and new service delivery in mobile networks.

“Better Quality of Experience (QoE) for mobile data services requires better tools in the network, with more granular visibility into traffic flowing over networks. DPI is becoming a strategic weapon for mobile operators as they seek to control and monetize mobile data traffic, and leading vendors are stepping up to meet evolving operator needs,” said Susan Welsh de Grimaldo, director, Mobile Broadband Opportunity service at Strategy Analytics.

“Top DPI vendors are supporting new operator revenue growth by integrating real-time charging, subscriber analytics, policy, and traffic optimization—especially for video—all to enhance customer satisfaction and QoE,” said Sue Rudd, director, Service Provider Analysis.

The DPI market is dynamic and diverse, with new players like Neuralitic Systems receiving a patent for context aware DPI and companies like Qosmos supplying DPI solutions for integration into numerous network elements by large equipment vendors.

In parallel, vendors with standalone DPI solutions—which offer benefits in scalability, fine grain detection, rapid rules updates and support for converged networks—are also evolving rapidly.

In the world of pure-play DPI, three vendors, Allot Communications, Sandvine, and Procera Networks have emerged as the main players.

Among these pure-play DPI companies, Allot Communications has become the revenue and innovation leader, and has just reported another strong quarter with 40 percent revenue growth from last year.
