Jio Explores Technology-for-Equity Partnerships with Comcast and Charter

Reliance Jio has held discussions with US cable operators Comcast and Charter Communications about licensing its wireless broadband technology in exchange for potential equity stakes. The proposed partnerships could help both companies strengthen broadband services and compete with fiber and fixed wireless providers without depending entirely on traditional cable infrastructure. Jio has also explored a potential partnership with South Africa’s MTN Group, but those discussions reportedly collapsed over valuation and licensing disagreements. The company is targeting 10 to 15 international partners for its proprietary unlicensed-band radio technology, which delivers broadband through transmitters installed on towers and rooftops without requiring direct cable connections to homes.

Huawei Unveils Next-Generation U6GHz Antenna to Accelerate 5G-Advanced Networks

Huawei has introduced its next-generation VitaAAU antenna system for the Upper 6GHz spectrum band, targeting higher network capacity and wider coverage for 5G-Advanced and future 6G networks. The system integrates 256T256R transmission and reception channels with more than 1,500 antenna array elements. Huawei claims the solution improves coverage by approximately 30 percent compared with similar products featuring 1,024 elements, enabling operators to deploy U6GHz technology using existing C-band sites. The 6,425–7,125 MHz frequency range provides 700 MHz of contiguous spectrum and supports peak download speeds of up to 10 Gbps. The technology is designed to help operators address increasing mobile data traffic.

U Mobile Expands Malaysia 5G Coverage to 2.3 Million People with 545 Fiber-Connected Sites

U Mobile announced on November 3 that its ULTRA5G network had expanded to cover approximately 2.3 million people across Sabah, Malaysia. The expansion is supported by CTS Horizon, which provides fiber backhaul infrastructure for the operator’s 5G deployment. More than 545 mobile sites now have upgraded fiber connectivity supporting transmission capacities of up to 10 Gbps per site, compared with the 1 Gbps typically used for earlier 4G connections. The infrastructure incorporates redundant network paths to improve service availability. Coverage extends across Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tuaran, Papar and Keningau. U Mobile began its Sabah 5G deployment in August 2025. The latest announcement confirms expanded network reach and transmission capacity rather than additional spectrum acquisition.
