Spectrum Activates Gigabit Fiber Network for 2,900 Additional Warrick County Locations

Charter Communications has completed another rural broadband expansion in Indiana, making Spectrum fiber services available to more than 2,900 additional homes and businesses in Warrick County. Announced on October 20, the deployment extends gigabit-capable connectivity to communities around Boonville that previously lacked adequate broadband infrastructure. The network supports download speeds reaching 1 Gbps, with further capacity upgrades planned under Charter’s wider network modernization strategy. The Warrick County project is geographically separate from the company’s newly announced Fayette County expansion. Both form part of its national rural broadband program, backed by more than $7 billion in private capital. Charter has not disclosed Warrick County’s individual construction cost, fiber-route length or the number of customers already connected.

Iceland–Scotland Auður Subsea Cable Project Selects Landing Sites, Targets 2029–2030 Service

Icelandic telecommunications company Korda has selected landing locations for its proposed Auður submarine cable, connecting Iceland and Scotland. The development was reported on October 21. The Icelandic landing will be in Meðalland, near Kirkjubæjarklaustur, while the Scottish landing is planned for Irvine Bay on the Firth of Clyde. Korda also intends to establish a connectivity hub in Glasgow, supporting onward connections to London, continental Europe, Ireland and the Nordic region. Seabed surveys are planned for summer 2027, with commercial operation targeted around 2029–2030. Pioneer Consulting has been appointed lead consultant for procurement and engineering activities. The project’s investment value, total cable length, fiber-pair count and design transmission capacity have not been disclosed.

GlobalConnect Advances €40 Million Baltic Subsea Cable Linking Sweden, Estonia and Finland

GlobalConnect is advancing a submarine fiber project connecting Sweden, Estonia and Finland. The approximately €40 million infrastructure program includes around 300 kilometers of submarine cable and a further 250 kilometers of terrestrial fiber infrastructure in Estonia. The proposed route connects Sweden’s Gotland island with Saaremaa, Hiiumaa and mainland Estonia before extending toward Helsinki. European Union support reportedly totals approximately €15.7 million. Project preparations and marine permitting are progressing, with construction activities planned across 2026–2027 and service targeted for 2027. The new route would improve network diversity across the Baltic region, where existing submarine infrastructure has experienced disruption risks. Final capacity specifications, contractor awards and detailed commissioning milestones have not been disclosed.

SpaceX Reports 13.6 Million Starlink Subscribers as Satellite Revenue Rises 69% in Q3 2026

SpaceX has reported continued expansion of its Starlink satellite broadband business during the third quarter of 2026. Starlink revenue increased approximately 69 percent year over year to $5.25 billion, while the service reached approximately 13.6 million subscribers. The October 21 financial update comes as SpaceX develops a broader mobile-connectivity strategy combining satellite infrastructure with terrestrial spectrum. The company is targeting entry into the US mobile market by 2028 through its Starlink business. Its expansion plans follow regulatory approval for a next-generation direct-to-device satellite constellation, although authorization does not mean the proposed spacecraft have been deployed. SpaceX has not disclosed a detailed nationwide terrestrial-network construction budget or timetable.
