Orange has completed the acquisition of the remaining 50 percent stake in MasOrange, securing full ownership of Spain’s leading telecom operator in a €4.25 billion cash transaction, as announced on 8 June 2026. The stake was previously held by investment firms KKR, Cinven, and Providence via the Lorca vehicle. With this move, Orange will fully consolidate MasOrange’s financial results and unlock expected industrial and commercial synergies in its second-largest European market. The deal follows regulatory approvals from the European Commission and Spanish authorities. MasOrange, formed from the earlier Orange–MásMóvil merger, becomes entirely integrated into Orange’s global structure, reinforcing its position against competitors like Telefonica and boosting operational scale, efficiency, and long-term growth ambitions across Spain’s telecom sector.
LEO Connectivity Takes Off in Finland: Eutelsat–Voimatel Partnership to Bridge Digital Gaps
Eutelsat and Finnish telecom infrastructure provider Voimatel have entered a partnership to deploy Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity services across Finland. The collaboration will integrate Eutelsat’s OneWeb satellite network into Voimatel’s existing terrestrial systems, creating hybrid solutions that enhance coverage, resilience, and capacity for enterprise and public-sector users. The service is designed to support critical communications in urban, rural, and hard-to-reach areas, including Arctic regions where conventional networks are limited. Voimatel, which builds and operates telecom networks for operators and utilities, will use LEO connectivity to strengthen redundancy and ensure uninterrupted service. Eutelsat highlighted the partnership as part of its broader strategy to expand high-performance satellite broadband, while Voimatel emphasized improved low-latency connectivity and extended northern coverage for customers across Finland.
AI Powerhouse in the Making: Nvidia and SK Telecom Build Gigawatt-Scale AI Cloud in Korea
Nvidia and SK Telecom have announced a major partnership to build a gigawatt-scale AI cloud in South Korea, marking one of the country’s largest AI infrastructure initiatives. The project will be powered by Nvidia’s DSX full-stack AI factory architecture and is designed to support sovereign, enterprise, agentic, and physical AI workloads across industries such as manufacturing, robotics, semiconductors, and telecommunications. SK Telecom plans to launch its first AI factory by 2027, expanding its role from a traditional telecom operator into a full AI infrastructure provider. The system will integrate SK Telecom’s network and data center capabilities with Nvidia’s accelerated computing platforms to generate and process AI “tokens” efficiently. The collaboration also aims to strengthen Korea’s position as a global AI hub and reduce dependence on overseas hyperscalers while enabling large-scale industrial AI deployment.
