TenneT commissioned three consortia to deliver offshore converter platforms and onshore grid stations for the project, a cornerstone of the European energy transition targeting climate neutrality by 2050.

The 2GW program pioneers a standardized, efficient model for offshore wind energy transmission. Nokia’s 1830 PSS DWDM solution will establish a resilient optical network linking offshore sites to TenneT’s onshore infrastructure, ensuring continuous and reliable energy transmission.

Advanced amplification and transponder technologies will enable long-distance, single-span transmission up to 400 km, ensuring high performance in challenging offshore conditions, Nokia said.

Nokia’s comprehensive design, testing, and operational care services will support TenneT’s high standards for resilience and long-term performance. The project aligns with global renewable energy goals, with full operational readiness of the first 2GW platform expected by 2029 following early integration and testing beginning in 2025.
